Man 'Brutally' Attacked At Maternity Ward
A man was hospitalised in Manchester after being "brutally" assaulted with a baseball bat.
Police say the unprovoked attack happened outside the maternity ward of Wythenshawe Hospital on Floats Road, Baguley at about 9pm on Thursday.
The victim, 29, was sitting outside the ward when he was approached by his assailant, who started attacking him with a wooden baseball bat - described as having a silver handle.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the offender rained repeated blows to the victim's head and body and then ran off and escaped by jumping into a waiting silver Ford.
The victim suffered a two-and-a-half inch cut to his leg that required eight stitches to close and severe bruising to his legs and arms. It is understood the man will make a full recovery.
A witness described the attacker as being white, about 6ft tall, in his 30s with dark brown hair and a moustache.
Detective Constable Dom Heslop, based at Wythenshawe CID, said: "This appears to be a totally unprovoked and senseless attack on a man who was minding his own business.
"It was not just one random punch. It was a vicious and sustained attack using a weapon and it is lucky the victim did not suffer more serious injuries.
"Everything points to this being a completely unprovoked assault and it is vital we find this dangerous man."
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
