Double-Decker Bus Overturns In Dorset

Twenty-five people, including children, have been injured after a double-decker bus overturned in Dorset.

It is reported that passengers on the top deck were "thrown" from the vehicle and those downstairs where "trapped" following the incident at 10.15am.

Emergency services are attending the scene, which has been declared a "major incident".

A Dorset Police spokesman said a member of the public raised the alarm and have confirmed that two cars are also involved - one is thought to be a black Porsche - while the double-decker bus is owned by Wilts & Dorset.

Chris Harris, Publicity Manager for Wilts & Dorset said the 9.45am double-decker from Swanage overturned at Dean Hill, near the junction of the Studland to Swanage Road and the Studland to Corfe Castle Road.

Mr Harris said he "understands there are casualties" but he "hopes they are not serious".

Dorset Police said there were "several casualties with possible serious injuries".

The owner of shop at Sandbanks said he'd seen "up to 20 emergency vehicles race to the scene".

The Sandbanks ferry has been closed to members of the public and is being used for emergency vehicles only. The Ferry Road at Studland is also closed.

The number 50 bus is operating a shuttle service from Sandbanks to Bournemouth, and the service to Swanage is going via Wareham.

Inquiries into the accident are now underway.
