Saddleworth Moor Find Not Linked To Brady

Human remains have been found on Saddleworth Moor on the border of West Yorkshire and Lancashire.

However, while the moors became infamous in the 1960s as the place where child murderers Ian Brady (pictured) and Myra Hindley buried the bodies of their victims, West Yorkshire police have now said that the discovery is not thought to be connected to the Moors Murders.

They said "inquiries are ongoing", and revealed that they responded at about 1pm today to reports of remains found at Wessenden Head Road on the moor, near Huddersfield.

This will be a disappointment as Greater Manchester officers have been actively searching for the body of one of the victims, Keith Bennett, for the last three years.

However, David Kirwan, the solicitor acting for Keith's mother Winnie Johnson, said on Tuesday that police had not been in touch with them about any discovery.

The body of 12-year-old Keith Bennett, who was killed and buried on the moor near Manchester in 1964, has never been discovered, despite a tireless campaign by his mother to persuade the surviving Moors Murderers to reveal the location of the grave.

This discovery of what may be human remains comes a month after David Kirwan, while acting for Mrs Johnson, challenged Brady to "put up or shut up" over claims that he was ready to guide police to Keith's grave.

David Kirwan held two meetings with Brady at Ashworth High Security Hospital recently, where the serial killer has been held since he and his accomplice Myra Hindley were convicted in 1966.

Mrs Johnson, 74, has repeatedly pleaded with Brady to reveal where he buried her 12-year-old son, the only one of Brady's five victims whose body has not been found.

Hindley died in November 2002 of a serious chest infection following a heart attack.
