Baby Death Mother Named

The British woman charged with causing the death of her newborn baby in a hotel room in Crete has been named.

Leah Andrew, from London, has been charged with infantide after being arrested in Malia on Tuesday.

Ms Andrew was rushed to hospital by local residents after giving birth alone in her room.

Local police said that they newborn was found dead with sheets around its neck and covering its face.

A coroners report concluded that the child died of asphyxiation.

Ms Andrew is currently under guard on the Greek island, after suffering from heavy bleeding following the birth.

It is understood that Ms Andrews had travelled to Crete on holiday with a family member and female friend from the UK.

She is due to appear before court in the capital Heraklion on Thursday.

The charge of infanticide does not carry a life sentence.

British Woman Charged With Baby Death In Crete
A young British woman has now been charged with the murder of her new born baby in a hotel room in Crete. The 20-year-old woman, from London, who has not been identified, was arrested in Malia after she was taken to hospital with heavy bleeding. Police were notified when local residents rushed the woman to hospital after she gave birth in her room.

New hospital patients in England will be asked questions about their residence status in the UK, following the introduction of new rules by the Department of Health. It is understood that if a patients residence in the UK is in doubt, they will be asked to produce passports and immigration documents.
