Father Charged Over Landrover Crash Deaths

A father has been charged with causing the deaths of four of his seven children by driving dangerously.

Nigel Gresham, 37, of Witham Drive, Chapel Hill, has been remanded in custody to appear before magistrates today.

Mr Gresham was driving a Land Rover when it plunged into the River Witham at Tattershall Bridge in Lincolnshire on 16 September 2007.

His children, Willow, two, Angel, four, Thor, six and eight-year-old Keevie, all died in the following few days.

It is understood that Mr Gresham and his partner, Sara Bolland, 31, were with their seven children when the incident occurred.

Jaswant Kaur Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Lincolnshire said "this is a very sad case" and "a great deal of time" was spent reviewing the evidence and "considering the public interest before making the decision to prosecute".

Mr Narwaul said that "it was not a decision which was taken lightly given the tragic deaths of Mr Gresham's children and the loss he suffered as their father".

Around 600 family and friends attended the children's funeral service in Boston in early October with some 150 Land Rovers forming a guard of honour.

The maximum sentence for causing death by dangerous driving is 14 years.
