Two Killed In Car Collision
Two motorists have been killed and two teenage passengers have been seriously injured in a crash in East Sussex. Police say a woman in her 40s and a man in his 60s were killed in the collision between a green Ford Ka and a white Nissan vehicle on the A259 between Eastbourne and East Dean. The drivers were pronounced dead at the scene at about 9.30pm on Thursday. It is understood the female driver of the Ford was from the area. A 17-year old female passenger in the Ka and an 18-year-old female passenger in the Nissan are being treated at Eastbourne District General Hospital. Sussex police have asked witnesses to come forward.
Men Suffer Burns After Gas Explosion
Two men have suffered burns to their faces and hands after an explosion at a factory. Firefighters were called to the premises of Yorkshire Poultry Produce, in Hammerton Street, Bradford on Thursday evening. It emerged that the fire started when the men had apparently used a drilling machine to drill 500 feet down into a natural gas reserve below the premises. Two men sustained flash burns and were admitted to hospital. Specialist detection equipment was called for from South Yorkshire Fire Service. Transco, the gas transporter, also attended the incident. An inquiry is underway.

200 Homes Still Without Gas After Water Leak
Around 200 homes in Wales are still without gas after a burst water pipe flooded gas lines last Thursday. Wales and West Utilities have said that some 150,000 litres of water has been pumped from gas pipes since last Thursday, with 540 of the 755 homes affected by the leak, now reconnected.

A Wolverhampton plumber has been given a ten-month suspended jail sentence for causing a gas explosion and fire in which a pensioner sustained 21 per cent burns rescuing his nine-year-old granddaughter.

Centrica Posts £1 Million In Profits - To Consumers Anger
British Gas owner Centrica has posted half-year profits of almost £1 billion - much to the anger of consumer groups. Centrica maintain that it has been "absolutely necessary" to raise household gas prices as profits were down 20% in the first six months of this year to £992 million - down from £1.23 billion in 2007.

Bombers kill five worshippers at Iraqi mosque
Five people have been killed following an explosion at a mosque in the town of Baquba today. The bombers struck as worshippers concluded prayers at the Shia mosque this afternoon. Around 40 people have also been reported injured in the blast.

North Yorkshire Police have appealed for witnesses to a "serious collision" near Pickering on Friday 01 May. It is understood that three cars – a black Peugeot 106, a black Mercedez and a black Honda Civic – were involved in a collision at about 22:00 on the A169 Pickering to Whitby road.
