Youngster Recovers After Being Impaled On Railings
An eight-year-old boy is being treated in hospital after his leg became impaled on railings.
It is understood the boy was climbing over a fence at a house in Miskin Street, Treherbert, Rhondda, when he became stuck on one of the metal spikes.
South Wales Fire & Rescue were called to the scene just before 7pm last night to free the youngster using hydraulic equipment.
He was taken to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant, by ambulance, where he is now recovering.
A female witness said the incident was "horrific" and that the child was "marvellous and really brave".
She said the fire brigade cut the railings around his leg and took the boy to hospital to have the spike removed.
It is understood a similar incident happened to a young girl in the same street.
It is reported that the metal spike went through the boy's leg between the tibia and fibula.
A spokeman for South Wales Fire and Rescue said crews from Treorchy and Merthyr Tydfil attended.
The boy's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
