Man Dies After Leeds Shooting
A man has died in hospital after masked gunmen burst into a house in Leeds. West Yorkshire Police cordoned off the area yesterday and said they were investigating reports of a shooting at Clifton Mount in the Harehills area at 10.40pm on Tuesday. A 20-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound and later died at General Infirmary this morning. It is believed that men wearing balaclavas and camouflage barged into the property and targeted the young man. Police are said to be "particularly" interested in tracing a woman who knocked on several doors in the area before the shooting asking for someone called Michelle. She is described as white, aged between 25 and 28, with dark shoulder length hair and a black headband. A blue Ford Focus C-Max registration number YH54 SBV has been recovered from an address on Chapeltown Road near to the old Hayfield Pub. It is believed that the vehicle was involved in the incident. Detectective Superintendent Steve Payne said: "This has now turned into a murder investigation of which this car now forms a very important part. We know it was stolen from the Oatland Heights are of Little London around 11.30pm on June 11. "The car is dark blue, has no wheel trims and the back right hand wheel is a spacesaver. We believe the vehicle has been used in and around Leeds during this time and I am appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle between the time it was stolen and its recovery to contact us.
Family In Hospital After House Fire
A newborn baby along with three members of its family has been rushed to hospital after a fire in Hull. Emergency services were called to the scene of two houses that were alight in Cranbrook Avenue at 11.30pm last night. The baby, its parents and another woman were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary suffering from shock and smoke inhalation. It is not believed the residents of the adjoining house were injured. A spokesman for Humberside Police said that officers were working with Humberside Fire and Rescue to establish if the cause of the fire was malicious. A spokesman said that the fire "appeared to have spread rapidly and several crews were called to the scene". Cranbrook Avenue and nearby roads were closed while firefighters handled the incident.
