Toddler Killed At Highland Show

A toddler has been killed in an accident at Edinburgh's Royal Highland Show.

The three-year-old boy was admitted to The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh with serious head injuries at 1.30pm.

It is believed that the boy was playing near concrete bollards at the time of the incident.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokeman said that "despite efforts of medical staff" the youngster died at about 2.40pm.

"Further enquiries will be carried out by police and community safety officers from City of Edinburgh Council to establish exactly what happened," he said.

It has been stressed that the Health and Safety Executive will not be involved in the incident.

The City of Edinburgh Council Head of Community Safety, Gordon Greenhill said he wished extend "sincerest condolences to the child's family at this very sad time".

"The Council is working closely with the police and an immediate, thorough investigation is currently being carried out into this tragic incident," he said.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Businessman Fined Over Damage To Ancient Woods
