Manchester Pub Rapist Jailed
A man convicted of rape has today been jailed indefinitely.
Steven Relf, 39, of Alness Road, Whalley Range, pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court Square to two charges of rape at an earlier hearing.
Relf has been ordered to serve a minimum of four years and 105 days in prison before he will be eligible to apply for parole.
Judge Anthony Gee QC said passing sentence that "while there is no scientific evidence that the women were drugged" the condition they were in was "almost certainly brought about by alcohol" which "rendered them incapable of consenting".
Relf, a US-citizen worked as a bar manager at the Lounge Bar on Wilbraham Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy.
Police say he raped a 39-year-old woman who had been in the bar on 21 July, 2007.
Two months later, on 21 September, he raped a 19-year-old girl who he had pursued after he had locked up the pub.
According to police, a third woman has helped secure the convictions, claiming that Relf raped her in 2005, although he was never charged for that offence.
He has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
Detective Inspector Peter Marsh, of Longsight CID, said: "Relf is a sexual predator and a common trait of his is that he would target women who were vulnerable for a number of reasons, such as those who had split up with their boyfriends and perhaps were the worse for wear through drink.
"I strongly believe there may be more victims out there.
"We may be able to provide some assistance to them. The conviction and sentence of Relf proves we will take any allegation like this seriously."
Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 6153.
