Union Leader Calls For Royal Mail Resignation
A union leader has called for the resignation of Royal Mail Chief Executive Adam Crozier.
Dave Ward, Deputy General Secretary of the Communications Workers Union (CWU) launched a scathing attack on the Royal Mail boss at the union's annual conference in Liverpool.
Over 250,000 UK communications workers are set to attend the meeting to discuss and debate a range of issues during the week long summit.
Mr Ward said that £3 million salary paid to Mr Crozier was "obscene" and that "he has to go".
Billy Hayes, CWU General Secretary said that Mr Crozier and Royal Mail Chairman Allan Leighton were like "two drunken sailors rolling from side to side" in regard to their claims about the state of they company's finances.
Royal Mail issued a warning recently that it would need billions in extra cash from the government despite a £3.9 billion bail-out last year.
"Royal Mail is doing the Oliver Twist thing by asking the Government for more money to pay for pensions and to transform the business," Mr Ward said.
He added that Royal Mail was asking for between £8 billion and £9 billion "which they know they will not be given".
Mr Ward says that Mr Crozier needs to be removed from office as part of a "new vision" to secure the future of the business.
