Fern Britton To Take Presenting Break

TV presenter Fern Britton is taking a break from ITV's breakfast show 'This Morning'

Britton, 50, had a gastric band operation two years ago, which resulted in her dramatic weight loss.

However, she faced criticism from the media and fans when she admitted having the operation. Her weight loss had been widely attributed to good diet and exercise. According to reports, the operation helped the presenter to drop three dress sizes.

A statement issued by ITV confirmed that Fern was "having some time off" and added that they hoped she would be back at work "very soon".

Britton's co-host Philip Schofield hosted Tuesday's programme by himself.

Last week, Britton told 'This Morning' viewers that she "did not feel the need" to tell everybody that she underwent surgery.

She described the decision to have surgery as "personal one" and stressed that what she had said about eating less and exercising more was "absolutely true".

Reports have suggested that Britton is suffering "nervous exhaustion" over the incident.

Britton is reported as saying in the past: "I would rather be big and happy than on a diet and miserable".

Britton was the face and body of Ryvita Minis snacks, a deal reputed to be worth £200,000 a year.
