Police Granted Extra Time To Question Murder Suspect
Police have been granted extra time to question the man suspected of stabbing a young girl to death.
Arsema Dawit, who had turned 15 on Friday, suffered multiple stab wounds resulting in her death, a post mortem found.
Arsema was found badly wounded by a mother and her daughter (aged 8) in a lift at Matheson House, Bayliss Road, Waterloo, on Monday at around 3.45pm.
However, a spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said that emergency services were unable to save the young girl.
According to a report on Sky News, Arsema's family had told police just weeks ago that she had been assaulted by an "obsessive man".
Scotland Yard has confirmed that they received a complaint on April 30 in relation to an incident at McDonalds restaurant where it is alleged Arsema's life was threatened.
The investigation was still ongoing when Arsema was stabbed.
It is not believed that the Independent Police Complaints Commission has received a complaint from the family on the incident.
It is reported that the man being questioned was arrested on a footbridge over the River Thames after he reportedly made an attempt on his own life.
Neighbour Wayne Fort, whose partner and daughter found the body told Sky News that the man "seem to be infatuated with her [Arsema]."
It is believed that Arsema is the 16th teenager to die a result of violent crime in the capital.
