Blaze At City Centre Pub
A fire that broke out at a Cardiff pub has lead to the evacuation of a major department store and city market.
It is believed the fire started in the kitchen of O'Neill's pub in Trinity Street at 11.40 today.
No injuries have been reported.
Customers and stall owners at Cardiff Market and staff from Howells department store were evacuated as a precaution.
At the height of the blaze around 50 firefighters and 10 officers were at the scene.
A spokesman for the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said that the O'Neills building had been "severely damaged by fire and the roof had been destroyed".
"Firefighters have now entered the building to deal with any hot spots and will damp down until further notice," he said.
An eyewitness said he saw "flames 20 ft high" coming from the top of O'Neills.
John Adams, who own Ashton fishmongers said that the damage to his stock could be between £5,000 and £10,000.
In a statement for O'Neills, the company said that the cause of the blaze had not been established but that it was working with the fire service.
The pub used to be known by the name the New Market Tavern.
