Potter Prequel To Go Under The Hammer

Popular author JK Rowling has written a short prequel to the massively successful Harry Potter books.

Unfortunately for hard-core fans, the 800 word 'storycard' will not be published but will instead go under the hammer at a charity auction in London in June.

Auction organisers asked authors such as Nick Hornby, Irvine Welsh and Doris Lessing to create a 'story card' for the sale.

They were delighted when JK Rowling, (31) - whose books have sold a reputed 375 million - handed over the prequel to the adventures of the boy wizard.

Gerry Johnston, Managing Director of Waterstone's said of behalf of the organisers that they "never dreamed" JK Rowling would "donate something so precious" and that they were "incredibly grateful".

Philip Errington, a specialist at Sotheby's which will run the auction said that "given the enormous interest - the prospects for her storycard are good to say the least".

All 13 cards will be sold without a reserve price.

A book containing all 13 storycards will go on sale in August, with proceeds going to charity.

It is estimated that JK Rowling has earned a £560 million fortune from her seven Potter stories which according to the 2008 Sunday Times Rich List makes her the 12th richest woman in Britain.

She says that if she writes another Potter tale, it will not be for ten years.
