Heathrow Crash Pilot Returns To Work
A pilot who helped avert a potential disaster has returned to work.
The results of an British Airways (BA) enquiry revealed that Peter Burkill and his co-pilot prevented a "far worse accident".
Senior First Officer John Coward took over the stricken plane which was en route from Beijing.
Mr Burkill has not been at work since the incident on 17 January.
The report, seen by the BBC, praised Mr Burkill for "adjusting the wing flaps to give the aircraft enough lift to avoid the perimeter fence".
Mr Coward pushed the plane's nose towards the ground in order to increase speed before levelling out just before the plane crashed on to the grass.
Mr Burkill said that Mr Coward had done a "most remarkable job" in landing the aircraft.
Mr Burkill's wife, Marie had said that her husband had "found it difficult to defend his actions" since the incident.
After the aircraft crash-landed, 136 passengers and 16 crew were led to safety.
One person suffered a broken leg and others received minor injuries.
An initial investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Board (AAIB) found the jet's engines had "failed to respond to demands for increased thrust from the crew two miles from touch down".
The BA investigation into the Boeing 777 crash in January will not be made public.
The investigation by the AAIB is continuing.
