Lake District Collision Death

A woman has died following a road collision close to the Lake District.

A Nissan Micra and Ford Transit van were involved in the crash near Gilpin Bridge, Kendal, which trapped the female motorist in her vehicle.

The vehicles had been travelling in opposite directions.

She was freed from the wreckage by emergency services and airlifted to the Royal Lancaster Hospital where she later died.

Two male occupants of the Ford were also taken to hospital and were treated for minor injuries.

The A590 was closed for almost four hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact the incident room on 0845 33 00 247.

Reid gives 'green light' for £4bn PFI hospital deal
The 'green light' has been given for 15 new NHS hospital developments in a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) deal worth more than £4 billion, it has been announced today. Today's announcement will bring investment in new NHS hospitals to more than £16 billion since 1997, the health department said.

Teenager rescued from sea dies
A 15-year-old boy rescued from the sea off Norfolk has died. A lifeboat crew rescued the boy who had got into difficulties while swimming with another boy off Wells-Next-the-Sea, Norfolk. He was located by the lifeboat and was airlifted to hospital. But he later died shortly after being admitted to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Police Appeal Over Petrol Station Death
Police in Renfrewshire have appealed for witnesses to a fatal collision at a petrol station in Linwood. Police say that Eilish Herron (17) was putting petrol in her Renault Clio at the Asda service station when it was hit by a Ford Focus. Ms Herron died at the scene. The driver of the Ford Focus was uninjured.

Fatalities in M25 smash
Kent police have confirmed that a serious road crash with four fatalities has occured on the M25 near junction 5. Rescue services were called to the scene at 10.35am and there are understood to be a four dead at the scene. The driver of an HGV was taken to Farnborough hospital, Orpington, suffering from chest injuries and shock.

Woman Dies After M5 Crash
A woman who was injured in a multiple vehicle collision on the M5 in Devon has died in hospital. Oxana Tukova, a 21-year-old Russian national, was one of seven people injured in the eight-vehicle collision,which happened near Junction 28 at Cullompton around 9pm on August 26.
