Police Offer Reward In 'Slasher' Hunt
Police in Islington are offering a reward of up £10,000 for information leading to the arrest of a man who attacked a football fan.
The victim was walking home from an Arsenal v Wigan football match last November with two other men when he accidentally bumped into another man on the pavement.
He was subsequently slashed across the face causing a gash about five inches long. It is not know what type of weapon was used.
Emergency services took the man, aged 38, to the Whittington Hospital where initially his injuries were thought to be life-threatening.
The victim has now recovered but he is still receiving treatment.
Police say that the suspect ran off southbound along Blackstock Road. He is described as of being of Asian or Arabic appearance, in his late twenties, about six foot tall, with a beard and short hair, wearing traditional Muslim dress.
Leading the investigation, Detective Sergeant Adam Rodger from Islington CID said: "This was a vicious and unprovoked attack on the victim who received a deep cut to his face.
"He received 40 stitches and will be scarred for life as a result.
"The nature of this assault was so serious we are now offering a £10,000 reward for information which leads to the identification, arrest and prosecution of the man responsible.
"The area was very busy at the time of the attack so there should be numerous witnesses. People's memories might be triggered by the fact Arsenal were playing Wigan that day," he said.
Police have also released a CCTV image of the man they believe to be responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to call CID on 0207421 0350.
