Jimmy Mizen Murder Witness Responds To Police Appeal

Following the unprovoked murder of teenager Jimmy Mizen at a London bakery over the weekend, a witness has come forward in response to police appeals.

The 16-year-old victim was at the Three Cooks Bakery in Lee, south-east London on Saturday morning when he was challenged to come outside the shop for a fight. When he refused the attacker picked up an advertising board and smashed his way into the bakery.

It is understood Jimmy, who had gone out to buy his first lottery ticket after celebrating his 16th birthday the previous day, died from fatal injuries after being stabbed in the neck. The victim's brother was with him as he died.

Police - who issued an appeal for a white middle-aged man who was in the bakery at the time of the attack - have revealed the man has now come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons told reporters the attack on the 6ft 4in teenager - described as a "gentle giant" - was not gang or knife related.

He referred to him as a person of "immaculate character" who was the "victim of an entirely unprovoked and vicious attack".

On Sunday around 250 people attended a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lee to pay tribute to Jimmy.

He had been an altar boy as a child, and was baptised in the church which is just 200 yards from the site of the attack.

A two-minute silence was held at the service that was attended by friends and family, who laid flowers and read out messages of condolences.

Jimmy Mizen is the thirteenth such teenager to have been murdered in London this year.
