Police Quiz Man On Cocaine Haul

Police have been granted an extension to quiz a man in connection with a 135kg haul of cocaine.

Detectives will question the 55-year-old man from Nottingham for a further 32 hours on the drug find with a street value of around £15 million.

Officers discovered the Class A drug on Saturday after Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers searched two lorries at the Essex port of Harwich.

It is believed that the vehicles came into the UK from Holland.

Earlier today three men, Peter Michael Hannigan, 49, from Kendal, Mark Seel Neville, 41, and Darren James Morris, 32, both from Preston appeared at South Lakeland District Magistrates court where they were charged with conspiracy to import cocaine and fraudulent evasion of prohibition on the importation of cocaine.

Mr Hannigan and Mr Neville were also charged with conspiracy to supply amphetamine, valued at £10,000.

Two men from Grantham in Lincolnshire, a 35-year-old and a 45-year-old, and a 32-year-old from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire have been released on police bail until 1 July.

54 arrested in swoop on suspected drug dealers
Sellers of the Big Issue were among 54 people arrested by Merseyside Police today in a crackdown on drug dealing in Liverpool city centre. Operation Manton targeted suspected drug dealers and drug users and 50 men and four women were arrested following a 15-month long investigation by Merseyside Police into drug dealing on the city's streets.

Man Jailed Over False Kidnap Claim
A man who claimed to have been kidnapped and demanded a ransom from his partner to secure his release has been jailed. Police were contacted by the distressed partner of Paresh Savji Devraj, who reported that he had been kidnapped and that he would be beaten and killed if she didn't pay £1,000.

New Test Developed To Detect Cocaine Use Through A Fingerprint
A new test has been developed that can detect cocaine use through a fingerprint, according to research published in the journal Analyst.
