House Fire Strikes Family In Leicester

One young woman has died and five others have been injured after a house fire in Leicester.

Twenty firefighters fought the blaze at the residence on Heyford road early on Tuesday morning.

A 22-year-old woman - who has not yet been formally identified - later died from her injuries in hospital.

Police say that a 78-year-old man is in a serious condition and a 60-year-old woman, a young boy and girl aged four and two are in a stable condition at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

An eight-year-old girl is also in a stable condition and has been transferred to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Chief Fire Officer David Webb from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue said the fire caused "extensive damage".

The cause of the fire is now under joint investigation by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Leicestershire Constabulary.

It is believed that this is the second time fire has blighted the family as five more members died in a house fire 10 years previous.
