More 'Bread' Now Spent On Bread

The average cost of a loaf of bread has gone up 20% in shock figures released today.

in fact, research conducted by comparison website MySupermarket.co.uk said that the cost of a basic shop now costs 15% more than it did a year ago.

The fact-finding research compared prices of the UK's main food supermarkets Tesco, Sainbury's and Asda and noted that consumers are suffering.

Managing Director of MySupermarket.co.uk, Johnny Stern, commented that "supermarkets are passing on a sizeable amount of the increased costs".

He added: "Many families are already struggling under the pressure of rising costs are seeking ways to cut their grocery bills."

The rising costs of staple products such as tea bags, milk and eggs means consumers could be spending up to £780 more on grocery shoppng per year.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has already met with food industry representatives (yesterday) to discuss ways of deflecting international rising food costs.

Experts believe that the rising prices will propel an extra 100 million people into poverty worldwide.

Possibly in a bid to be more self sufficient, it is also reported that vegetable seed sales have increased by 60% in the same period.
