Police Smash Prostitution Ring
A police operation targeting prostitution has seen 15 people arrested in a bid to curb the operations of an alleged organised criminal ring, which forces foreign women into the sex trade.
Metropolitan police arrested three men and one woman on suspicion of trafficking into and within the UK, controlling prostitution for gain and money laundering offences at an address in London, W2.
A further 11 people were arrested in connection with alleged trafficking within the UK and controlling prostitution at addresses in NW4, SW1, SW16, W8 and W2.
So far 30 women have been removed and taken to a specialist centre.
Chief Superintendent Ian Dyson, in charge of the Clubs and Vice Unit said: "We believe this gang have been running it on their own but may also acting on behalf of other pimps selling-on their women.
"This operation was designed to breakdown the criminal network exploiting these women."
The overall initiative, codenamed Operation Gib, began in December 2007, and is conducted in conjunction with Norfolk Police and with the support of Surrey Police.
