Police Appeal Over Retirement Home Thefts

Police have released CCTV images of a woman they wish to speak to in connection with two burglaries at a retirement home in Lambeth, southwest London.

The Metropolitan Police said that they believe the woman is linked to two incidents in which residents had items stolen.

During the first incident at the home on Lingham Street SW9, which occurred at approximately 6pm on April 6, a woman was given access to the building via a secure communal door by a resident who believed she was a legitimate visitor.

Once inside, she frisked the resident who had let her in, then made her way through the building, stealing cash and items of property from residents' rooms.

The second incident occurred at approximately 9pm on April 9. On this occasion a woman gained access to the premises by walking in behind a legitimate visitor to the home.

She again went through the building, entering residents' rooms and taking cash and property. On both occasions, a woman attempted to reposition or disable CCTV cameras on the premises.

The woman in the CCTV is described as a black woman aged approximately 30 years, around 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build.

DC Chris Collins from Kennington CID, said: "This was a crime in which vulnerable people were deliberately targeted. We believe the CCTV images show the same woman entering the home on both occasions.

"If anyone recognises her, or has any other information about the incidents, please get in touch with us."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on: 0208 649 2416 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
