Al Fayed Ends Ten Year Legal Battle
Mohamed Al Fayed, the billionaire owner of Harrods has told reporters "enough is enough" in light of the jury's verdict of the inquest into Princess Diana and his son Dodi's death.
Mr Al Fayed said he accepted the nine to two verdict of unlawful killing through gross negligence "with reservations", but that he would not pursue his conspiracy campaign any further.
The businessman said: "I'm a father who has lost his son and I've done everything for ten years.
"I am sure they are blessing in their deep hearts what I'm doing to discover the truth. But I have had enough. I'm leaving the rest for God to get my revenge. I'm not doing anything more."
Mr Al Fayed said that he remained critical of coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker for not carrying out a more thorough investigation of the case.
"For 10 years I have endured two police investigations. The French and the Scotland Yard inquiries were wrong. These inquests prove it. They said it was an accident and their findings are now dismissed," Mr Al Fayed said, in a statement.
Diana, Dodi and driver Henri Paul were killed when the car they were travelling in crashed in the Pont de l'Alma Tunnel in Paris on August 31, 1997.
It is reported that the total cost of the inquest into the deaths amounts to almost £10 million.
