Prince Philip Admitted To Hospital
The Duke of Edinburgh has been taken to hospital for treatment for a chest infection.
Prince Philip has been taken to the King Edward VII's Hospital in London for treatment and Buckingham Palace confirmed that his engagements for the weekend had been cancelled.
The Duke, 86, had been unable to attend the thanksgiving service for Everest conqueror Sir Edmund Hillary on Wednesday. It is believed that he had been suffering from a bad cold earlier in the week.
A statement issued by Buckingham Palace on Friday said: "The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to the King Edward VII hospital for assessment and treatment for a chest infection.
"His Royal Highness's programme of engagements for the weekend has been cancelled."
However, it is believed that none of Prince Philip's engagements scheduled for next week have been cancelled and he was reported to be up and dealing with his correspondence while in hospital.
