Scarlett Murder Investigation Continues
The investigation into the rape and murder of British teenager Scarlett Keeling may be transferred to India's version of the FBI, Sky News has reported.
Scarlett's mother, Fiona MacKeown, who has alleged a cover up of her death by politicians, police and local mafia, has demanded a more thorough investigation.
Initially Indian authorities said that Scarlett had accidentally drowned but reopened the case under pressure from Ms MacKeown.
A third post mortem on Scarlett's body will be carried out in Devon.
Kishan Kumar, the senior Goa Police Officer leading the investigation said: "To keep the Goa Police clear and say that we have nothing to hide, we have recommended that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) take over the probe.
"I had admitted to initial lapses in investigation, and we have suspended one policeman already. But now our investigation is on the right track and we have nothing to hide."
Ms MacKeown has welcomed the news and "feels confident" she will find out what exactly happened and that justice will be served to her daughter's attackers.
She said: "I'm just delighted. I can sit and relax now a bit and not have to think about flying back and forth too much to carry on chasing it up."
The teenager was found partially clothed on Anjuna beach on 19 February.
Two men have been arrested for her rape and murder, Samson Da Souza, 28 has been charged with rape and Placido Carvalho is being questioned on suspicion of aiding sexual assault and murder.
The beach bar at the resort where Scarlett had been with a friend before she was murdered has been demolished.
