Jersey Government Could Face Legal Action From Victims
The Jersey government could be facing legal action as people claiming to have been abused at the Haut de la Garenne care home are seeking compensation.
A legal team set up by Havant firm, Dyer, Burdett and Company (DBC) has appealed for victims to contact them in conjunction with Jersey advocates Ozannes.
In 2006 DBC was awarded more than £3,000,000 for nine men who were subjected to sexual abuse as children at Berkshire County Council's Green Field House.
Cyril Turner, 48, who escaped from the Jersey home in the 1970s after allegedly being mentally and physically abused said: "I want the people who did this to be held responsible. I don't actually expect it, being Jersey, and this government to be forthcoming.
"There are so many of us and they will turn around and say 'we weren't the government then'. But I see them as being responsible."
Forensic teams are continuing their painstaking search of a second chamber at the home, which is in the north east parish of St Martin.

Soldiers Join Search In Jersey

Legal High 'Mexxy' Banned Under New Government Powers
A so called legal high, known as ‘Mexxy’, will be the first drug to be banned under new government powers, the Home Office has said. Methoxetamine, used as an alternative to ketamine, will be made illegal for up to 12 months while the government's drugs advisers decide whether it should be permanently controlled.

Jersey police have now confirmed the discovery of the partial remains of at least five youngsters at Haut de la Garenne, the former care home at the centre of an Historic Abuse Enquiry. The remains are thought to belong to children aged between four and 11.

A former care worker at the Haute de la Garenne children's home in Jersey has been jailed for two years after being found guilty of a number of sex attacks on teenage girls in the 1970s. Gordon Wateridge, 78, of St Clement, Jersey worked at the care home between 1970 and 1974.
