Woman Charged Over 'Kids With Drugs'

A Mexican woman has been charged with drug smuggling after customs officers at Heathrow allegedly found 15 kilos of cocaine strapped to the legs of two children.

Elisa Vazquez Sanchez, 40, was arrested following the discovery of the drugs during a search at Terminal 4 at the airport on Tuesday. She and the children had arrived in the UK on a British Airways flight from Mexico City.

She has been charged with attempting to smuggle Class A drugs into the UK and is due to appear before Uxbridge Magistrates Court today.

A 13-year-old boy has been released on bail to attend Heathrow Police Station on April 10 while an 11-year-old girl was released without charge. Both are now in the care of social services.

The drugs had an estimated street value of £675,000.
