Widow Pays Tribute To Police Chief
The widow of Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Michael Todd has paid tribute to her husband, describing him as "caring and loving".
A statment issued by Carolyn Todd on Thursday said: "Michael was a caring and loving father and husband. He was immensely proud of his kids. I loved Michael very much and the last time I spoke to him he told me he love me too."
Meanwhile, reports on Thursday named Angie Robinson, Chief Executive of Manchester's Chamber of Commerce, as the woman with whom Mr Todd had been having an affair for 18 months.
The 50-year-old married father-of-three was found dead at the foot of a cliff near Bwlch Glas in Snowdon, north Wales on Tuesday afternoon. According to reports, a half-empty bottle of gin was found next to his body.
A post-mortem carried out on Wednesday found "no obvious cause of death" and toxicology tests are due to be completed later.
The police investigation is examining the possibility that Mr Todd committed suicide.
It has been reported that Mr Todd had several extra-marital affairs and that he sent a series of text messages to family and friends before his death, which were described as "worrying".
Mr Todd had been Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police since 2002, having previously been an Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police.
He had lived in a flat in Manchester's city centre during the week, returning to the family home in Nottinghamshire at the weekends.
He had been tipped as a possible future Metropolitan Police Commissioner - the highest policing position in the UK.
An inquest into Mr Todd's death was opened and adjourned at Anglesey Council Chamber on Thursday.
