GMP Chief Constable Found Dead

The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police has been found dead in North Wales.

It is understood that Michael Todd was reported missing on Monday night.

Rescue teams are reported to have found his body in a beauty spot in North Wales on Tuesday afternoon.

His death is not believed to be suspicious.

Mr Todd became Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police in 2002. He his previous position was as an Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police.

He had first served with Essex Police, which he joined in 1976.

Pensioner Attacked By Police Dog Dies
A 73-year-old woman has died after being attacked by a police dog as her home was being searched in Middlesborough. Irene Collins was bitten by the dog last Wednesday and passed away in James Cook University Hospital over the weekend. The police dog has been withdrawn from operational policing activities.

Police Chief 'May Have Committed Suicide'
A post-mortem has been carried out on the body of Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Michael Todd, who was found dead in north Wales on Tuesday. According to reports, the examination has found no obvious cause of death.

Five Arrested Under Terrorism Act In Cardiff And Barry
Five men have been arrested under the Terrorism Act in Cardiff and Barry. Police officers from the North East Counter Terrorism Unit and the Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit executed six search warrants on Thursday. The men have been arrested under the Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The Home Secretary has announced a new police inquiry into the Hillsborough disaster, as the Attorney General urged the High Court to quash the inquest verdicts on the 96 victims. The new investigation will be headed by former Durham Chief Constable Jon Stoddart and will re-examine what happened in 1989.
