Pensioner Charged With Manchester Murder

A 70-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a 25-year-old man in Manchester last week.

David Broady, from Victoria Square in Manchester, has been charged with the murder of Craig Douglas and is due to appear before magistrates this morning.

Mr Douglas was stabbed in the neck with a small knife as he walked along Canal Street in the city on the night of February 25. He was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where he later died.

Another man, aged 66, was also arrested on suspicion of murder last week. He has been released on bail until March 24, pending further inquiries.

A 49-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge.

Rooney assault claims dropped
The man who accused footballer Wayne Rooney of assault has dropped his claim, it has been reported. Patrick Hanrahan, a 22-year-old student from Eaglescliffe, Middlesborough, accused the England and Manchester United striker of attacking him in the Tiger Tiger nightclub in Manchester.

Footballer Faces Jail Over Blackmail Charge
A former Manchester City youth teamgoalkeeper is facing jail over blackmailing another player over sexual images. Ashley Timms, 22, a former Manchester City trainee, demanded £15,000 from the player, who cannot be named for legal reasons. Timms admitted blackmailing the player between March 1 and April 3 this year.

Man Arrested Over Nightclub Car Crash
A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a stolen car was deliberately driven into a group of people outside a nightclub. The Saab car mounted the pavement on Packer Street, outside the Dali Bar, injuring a total of fourteen people. Three people remain in hospital. The incident took place at 2.10am on Sunday in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

Murder investigation launched in Manchester
Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the bodies of a mother and her three children aged between 5 and 11 at a house in Greater Manchester. A fifth person living at the address, 36-year old Rahan Arshad, who is believed to have been missing for four weeks, is being sought by police.
