Appeal For Witnesses In Dead Baby Case
Police investigating the discovery of the body of a baby girl in woods in Redcar have released a description of a woman they wish to contact.
The body of the premature baby - named Lea by police - was found wrapped in a large blue and purple striped beach towel in a binliner in woodland near Kirkleatham Lane by teenagers on February 20.
Police said that they want to speak to a woman who was seen walking near St Cuthbert's Church in Kirkleatham a couple of days before the baby was discovered.
She is described as around 30 years of age, white, of short chubby build, with short dark bobbed hair to her neckline and a very pale complexion. She was wearing a black jumper, which was baggy around the top of the body and tight on the waist, and dark trousers.
Police said that the woman was described as walking very slowly and appeared to be in "an emotional state".
Police have also appealed for information about the towel that the baby was found wrapped in. The towel, a large beach towel which was blue and purple striped, is believe to have been bought up to two years ago from Matalan.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on: 01642 302742.
