Investigation Into Cake-Eating Death Tragedy

Police in Swansea are investigating the tragic death of a man during a fairy cake-eating contest.

Police are waiting for the results of a post-mortem on 34-year-old Adam Deeley, who collapsed at the Monkey Cafe and Bar in the early hours of Friday morning, and are planning to interview other people who were in the cafe at the time.

It is understood that Mr Deeley, who worked at the cafe, but was not working that night, collapsed during a party to raise funds for a local artist.

Police are investigating to see whether his death was caused by his participation in a contest between friends to see who could eat the most fairy cakes at once. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Deeley, who had recently completed a course in graphic design at Swansea Institute, is believed to have worked at the cafe bar for the past year.

The owners of the venue issued a statement saying they were "devastated" by Mr Deeley's death.

An inquest is due to open next week.
