British Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
A British Soldier has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
The soldier, from the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, was killed in the explosion in southern Afghanistan on Sunday.
The incident happened just before 9pm local time, when soldiers from the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment were taking part on a foot patrol with 40 Commando Royal Marines, near Kajaki in the Helmand Province.
The soldiers were caught in an explosion and two soldiers were injured. Both soldiers were evacuated to Camp Bastion by emergency response helicopter. However, one of the soldiers was pronounced dead on arrival.
The other soldier's injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that next of kin have been informed and said that there would be a 24-hour grace period before further details were released.

The Ministry of Defence is expected to name a soldier killed in an explosion in Afghanistan on Wednesday, later today. The soldier, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, was killed in an explosion around 5:50am local time in the northeastern outskirts of Sangin in the Helmand province. Two other soldiers were also injured.
