PM Meets Riverdance Rescuers
On the way to make his first visit to Wales as Prime Minister - and to attend Welsh Labour's spring conference - Gordon Brown has made a whistle-stop visit to RAF Valley on Anglesey.
The lunchtime arrival was arranged so that he could meet the personnel involved in the rescue of the Riverdance freight ship, which ran aground near Blackpool.
The crew was winched off in appalling weather conditions when the ship had to be abandoned.
Crew and passengers from the Riverdance were rescued on 31 January, as it was hit by a freak wave in the Irish Sea while heading to the Lancashire coast.
A helicopter crew from the RAF base on Valley was involved in the operation.
Mr Brown was then heading for the Llandudno conference, where he outlined ideas for offering cash to encourage people on benefits into work and training.
His speech was due to set out his proposals for a "contract out of poverty".
