DNA Samples Found On Wright's Clothes
DNA samples discovered on gloves and a coat belonging to a man accused of murdering five prostitutes are likely to have came from two of his alleged victims, a forensic expert has said.
Peter Hau told Ipswich Crown Court that it was probable that Steve Wright was likely to have been wearing the semen stained gardening gloves examined when he was in contact with prostitute Paula Clennell.
The gloves were found in the pocket of a reflective jacket recovered from the fork-lift truck driver’s Ipswich home following his arrest in December 2006.
Dr Hau said blood likely to have come from Miss Clennell, 24, was found on the back of the left sleeve of the reflective jacket.
A sample matching 29-year-old Miss Nicholls' profile was then found on the lower right sleeve, jurors were told.
Hau said that there was a "one in a billion" chance blood on Steve Wright's coat did not match DNA profiles of Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls.
Wright, 49, of Ipswich, denies murdering Miss Clennell, 24, Gemma Adams, 25, Tania Nicol, 19, Anneli Alderton, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29.
Their bodies were found in remote locations around Ipswich during a ten-day period in 2006.
