New Zealand Teen Arrested In Backpacker Case

Police investigating the murder of Scottish backpacker Karen Aim in New Zealand have arrested a 14-year-old boy.

However, police have held a news conference to stress that they were not making a connection between the teenager's arrest and Ms Aim's death at this stage.

The youth, who is from Taupo, has already been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery in relation to an assault on a woman on January 5.

He is due to appear at the Youth Court in Palmerston North on Thursday.

Karen Aim (26), and from the Orkney Islands, was found lying in a pool of blood on a street corner near Taupo Nui-a-Tia College on January 17.

Her body was discovered just after 2am by police who had been called to investigate reports of vandalism at the college, where six windows had been smashed.

Ms Aim's body is expected to be flown back to the UK this week.
