Reward Offered Over Escaped Killer

Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for information leading to the arrest of escaped murderer Lee Nevins.

Nevins, who is serving a minimum 17-year sentence at Durham's top security Frankland Prison, escaped from prison officers on Tuesday, while being treated for a hand injury at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Nevins, 24, was serving his sentence for beating to death a disabled man, Lee Jobling, on Gateshead's Leam Lane Estate in April 2006.

Superintendent Gordon Milward said: "If anyone knows where Nevins is they are asked to call 999 straightaway or they can ring Crimestoppers anonymously in total confidence on: 0800 555 111 where a cash reward of up to £1,000 is available.

"We hope this cash reward will be a real incentive to anyone who knows where Nevins is. We hope that this reward will encourage those with the relevant information to give us a call which will lead us to arresting Nevins and returning him to prison."

Three people - two men and a male youth - were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender on Thursday in connection with Nevins' escape. All have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.
