Heathrow Crash-Landing Probe Continues

Experts are today continuing their investigation into the crash-landing of a British Airways plane at Heathrow airport on Thursday. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is leading the probe into the accident.

Sky News has since reported that 'sources' have claimed that the engines of the Boeing 777 did not respond to the pilot's request for more power.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown praised Captain Peter Burkhill for his professionalism in landing the jet safely at the airport.

All 136 passengers and 16 crew, who had travelled on the flight from Beijing, survived the crash-landing on Heathrow's south runway.

Eighteen people were treated for minor injuries, including whiplash, and all - apart from one female passenger - had been discharged by Thursday night.

Mr Brown, who was at the airport awaiting a flight to China, said: "I think it's right to pay tribute to the calmness and professionalism of the British Airways staff and the captain and what he achieved in landing the aircraft.

"The speed of the evacuation we saw at first-hand and the total professionalism and dedication of the staff."

British Airways Chief Executive Willie Walsh also paid tribute to the crew, describing them as "heroes". He said: "Everyone at British Airways is very proud of them."

Captain Burkhill is reported to be an experienced pilot who has around 20 years of flying experience.

More than 200 flights at Heathrow Airport were either cancelled or diverted to other airports following the incident on Thursday. Some flight delays are reported to be still continuing today at the airport.
