Children's Media Conference For July

The fifth 'Showcomotion' Children’s Media Conference will run from Wednesday 2 to Friday 4 July 2008.

The annual get together is now the most important event of its kind in the kids media calendar in the UK; up to 400 delegates from children’s TV, film, radio, gaming and interactive are expected to converge in Sheffield for sessions, masterclasses and keynotes.

The conference in July will undoubtedly focus on the challenging environment that faces kids’ media, including the Ofcom report, the Tania Byron report and re-organisation at BBC Children’s.

In this fast-moving environment, producers and creatives need to keep abreast of upcoming trends. As ever, Showcomotion will be leading on this and will be focusing heavily on the new business and creative opportunities available to the kids’ entertainment sector as a whole.

Missing 13-Year-Old Found 'Safe And Well'
Thirteen-year-old Daniel Pena-Sanchez has been found "safe and well", police have reported. The Catford teenager was reported missing on Tuesday, 11 August. Police said that Daniel was found after a member of the public recognised him from their social media campaign. The Metropolitan Police thanked the public for their help.

Sunny Weather Boosts UK Sales
Sunny weather in July has been credited in part for aiding an economic boost within the retail industry. The findings were released today in a statistical bulletin by the Office for National Statistics. Estimates of retail sales for July showed continued growth in the quantity of bought goods.

BBC To Close Its Digital Media Initiative
The BBC is to close its Digital Media Initiative (DMI). Beginning in 2008, DMI set out to move the BBC's production and archive operations to a fully integrated, digital way of working. The decision to close DMI follows an operational review of the project which was launched in October 2012.

House Prices Take September Dip
Data from Land Registry's House Price Index has revealed an annual price decrease of 2.6%. The average property value in England and Wales is now £162,109, representing a monthly change from August to September of 0.3% down. This continues the negative monthly price change seen in August of -0.1%.

BBC Trust Approve Gaelic Digital Service
The BBC Trust’s decision to approve proposals for a Gaelic Digital Service has been welcomed by Gaelic Media Service (GMS) and BBC Scotland. GMS and BBC Scotland will now begin the process of implementing their joint plans for the launch of the new service.
