Murder Inquiry As Leeds Blaze Infant Dies

The police have launched a full-scale murder inquiry after a 15-month-old girl was killed in a house fire.

The victim, her 19-year-old mother and a 27-year-old man were rescued from a blazing house in Seacroft, Leeds, in the early hours of Thursday morning and all three were taken to St James's Hospital.

The little girl died a short time later.

The tot's mother remains in a stable condition in hospital while the 27-year-old man has been transferred to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield where his condition is described as critical.

Detective Superintendent Steve Payne, who is leading the inquiry, said: "This is a tragic incident that has resulted in a young life having been cut short.

"I would like to offer my condolences to the families involved, who are currently being cared for by specially trained officers."

Meanwhile, West Yorkshire Police said a 22-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
