'Atonement' Ranks High In Golden Globes Nominations
World War II drama ‘Atonement’ has picked up seven nominations at the Golden Globes.
Awarded each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globe performance are viewed as one of the main events prior to the run-up to the Oscars on 24 February.
Quentin Tarantino announced the main nominations on Thursday at the Beverly Hilton.
Among the nominations for the drama are Best Film Drama and Best Screenplay.
Based on the novel by Ian McEwan, the story tells of a doomed romance of a young couple following a false accusation by an imaginative and naive child.
Leading lady Keira Knightley is nominated in the Best Dramatic Actress category along with Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Angelina Jolie and Jodie Foster.
Her co-star James McAvoy is named in the Best Dramatic Actor nominations with fellow contenders George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington.
Esteemed film veteran Steven Spielberg will receive the Globe’s Cecil B DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.
The awards to be held on 13 January at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles – have categories for dramas and a separate set of shortlists for comedies or musicals.

Cold shoulder for ‘Cold Mountain’ in Oscar nominations
One of the front-runners in this year’s Academy Award race has been dramatically snubbed in the nominations list. ‘Cold Mountain’, the lavish American Civil War epic, directed by Anthony Minghella, only picked up two major nominations – ‘Best Actor’ for Jude Law and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nomination for Renee Zellweger.

'The Queen' drama leads Bafta nominations
Royal drama 'The Queen' is leading the way in this year's Orange Bafta awards with ten nominations. Stephen Frears' drama about the monarchy at the time of the death of Princess Diana has been nominated in ten categories, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film and original screenplay.

But there was disappointment for one of the films stars Keira Knightley, who missed out on a best actress nomination.
