Shawbury Murder Victims Died From Head Injuries
Police investigating the deaths of two men in a flat above a fish and chip shop in Shawbury, North Shropshire, have confirmed that they died from head injuries.
A murder inquiry was launched after the two bodies were discovered in a flat above Mike's Fish Bar in Drayton Road, shortly before 10am last Friday.
The men have yet to be formally identified, but police have said that they are Asian men in their twenties.
At a press briefing at Shrewsbury police station on Saturday, Detective Chief Inspector John Collier said the investigation team was keeping an open mind about the motive, but said that there was nothing to suggest at this stage that it was a racist crime.
Home Office pathologist Dr Eddie Tapp carried out post-mortems on Saturday. However, no other details have been given concerning the deaths, apart from the fact that both men died from head injuries.
DCI Collier also confirmed that the men worked in the fish bar and said it was believed that they both lived in the flat above the premises, where their bodies were discovered.
Forensic officers are continuing their work at the scene, which remains sealed off.
A murder incident room has been set up at Telford police station and an appeal for information to assist the inquiry has been repeated.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact: 08457 444 888 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
DCI Collier said: "In particular, we are asking people to contact us if they saw or heard anything suspicious on Thursday night or Friday morning at or near the scene which might possibly be connected to the incident. I would ask them to make contact as a matter of urgency."
