Robbie Williams Apologises To Ex-Manager For Lyrics
Robbie Williams has apologised to his former Take That manager Nigel Martin Smith and agreed to pay undisclosed damages after one of his songs alleged that Martin Smith had stolen money from the band.
The lyrics had been contained in a song called 'The 90s', which was then rewritten to appear on the star's 'Rudebox' album, which was released last year.
The 33-year-old singer did not attend the hearing at the High Court, but his solicitor said: "Robbie Williams did not intend to allege that Nigel Martin Smith has ever stolen any funds from Take That or anyone.
"Prior to the release of 'Rudebox', the lyrics to 'The 90s' were changed by Robbie Williams in order to avoid any further misunderstanding.
"Nonetheless, Robbie Williams wishes now to apologise publicly and unreservedly for the distress that the original publication of those lyrics caused to Nigel."
Mr Martin Smith also did not attend the hearing and his solicitor said that the former Take That manager had not wanted the matter to come this far and said it was "regrettable" that Robbie had not apologised earlier.
Nigel Martin Smith managed Take That from 1990, when they first formed, until their breakup in 1996.
Williams left the band in 1995 in order to launch a solo career.
Take That reformed without Williams last year.
