Prisoner Makes Court Appearance Over Kent Body

A man has appeared in court to face charges related to the death of 15-year-old Vicky Hamilton, whose remains were found in the garden of a house in Kent.

Peter Tobin, 61, who is currently in custody, appeared before Linlithgow Sheriff Court on Thursday. He was remanded in custody and is expected to reappear in court next week.

Vicky disappeared from Bathgate in February 1991. She was last seen waiting for a bus.

Police searching the house in Margate had initially thought that the remains were those of another missing girl - 18-year-old Dinah McNicol.

Dinah, from Tillingham in Essex, disappeared after hitching a lift following a trip with friends to a music festival in Liphook in Hampshire in August 1991.

She was last seen in a car with a man on the M25. Neither the car nor driver has ever been traced.

Searches are continuing at the Margate house and police are expected to remain there for at least another week. Police have said that there is a chance that more remains could be found as the search for Dinah McNicol continues. House-to-house enquiries are also being carried out in the area as the investigation continues.

Police from a number of forces across the UK are currently examining another cases of missing women and girls over the past 40 years.
