Body Is Hotel Fall Girl's Mother
A body found washed up in a cave in Majorca has been identified as that of Sara Cooper, the mother of a seven-year-old girl who was seriously injured in a fall from a hotel balcony.
Mrs Cooper, 45, had not been seen since her daughter Gianna was found on the roof of an office on Monday morning after falling from the fifth floor of the Samoa Hotel in Calas de Majorca.
The body was found in a seaside cave in Porto Cristo in Cala Domingos, near the hotel, around 5pm on Wednesday.
A statement issued by Mrs Cooper's husband Ian on Thursday said: "I can confirm the terrible news that the body of my dear wife Sara, was found yesterday by the police.
"This is devastating news for me and my family and I would be grateful to the media if they could respect my family's privacy in order for us to concentrate on the recovery of my daughter who continues to make good progress and the wellbeing of my three sons."
Gianna underwent surgery in the island's capital, Palma. It was reported on Thursday that the girl was in a coma.
She had been on holiday with her parents and two older brothers when the incident occurred.
On Thursday, Spanish police said that they were investigating the possibility that Gianna may have been pushed from the balcony, but also stressed that they were investigating the theory that her fall may have been an accident.
