Kids Die Crossing Motorway
Two young boys have been knocked down and killed as they attempted to cross a motorway in Cheshire.
Kieran Coupe, seven, and his six-year-old friend, who has not yet been named, had been trying to cross the M56 at Preston Brook, near Runcorn, with their scooters when they were hit.
Cheshire Police said that at least three cars were involved in the incident, which happened around 7:20pm on Wednesday.
Both boys lived in Murdishaw and Kieran had only come to live in the area last March, after living in Mansfield in Nottinghamshire.
Kieran's father Colin Lambert has told reporters of his frantic search for his son when he failed to return home at 5pm for his dinner. Mr Lambert said that he was "hysterical".
He said that the two boys may have got lost in woods and accidentally stumbled onto the motorway. He also said that he suspected that his son may have been rushing to get home because he was afraid of the dark.
Mr Lambert has called for a fence or danger signs to be placed close to the edge of the motorway.
