Two Bodies Found In Car Blaze

An investigation has been launched after two bodies were found inside a burning car parked in a lay-by in Leicestershire.

The discovery was made on the A47, just north of Earl Shilton, around 11:15pm on Tuesday.

Members of the public reported that a car was on fire in the lay-by.

The scene has been cordoned off for a forensic examination to take place. The lay-by has been closed to the public, but the road is open to traffic.

Leicestershire Police have not confirmed whether the bodies were male or female. They said that identification of the pair may take some time because of the ferocity of the fire. Post-mortem examinations are due to take place later today.

Police are treating the incident as suspicious and said that they are keeping an open mind about the incident. However, they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

A number of lines of inquiry are being considered, detectives confirmed. According to reports, one possibility being investigated is that the deaths were a murder-suicide or suicide pact.

They are urging anyone who saw a vehicle pull into or parked in the lay-by around 11pm last night to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on: 0116 222 2222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
