Man Charged With Sheffield Teen's Murder

An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Jonathan Matondo in Sheffield last week.

Negus Nelson, of Margate Drive in the city, is due to be appear before Sheffield Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Police are continuing to question two other men - aged 18 and 26 - in connection with the teenager's death.

Jonathan was shot dead in a playground in the Burngreave area of Sheffield last week. A post-mortem revealed that he died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Meanwhile, Jonathan's mother has appealed for information to help find her son's killer.

A statement released by South Yorkshire Police on behalf of Therese Mfuilu said: "Since moving to England, Jonathan and I have stayed in many areas of Sheffield. In each area we have lived, he made friends. Jonathan has many friends all over the city.

"I am very upset and cannot believe what has happened and how my boy has died this way. I miss him all the time.

"I am grateful to those who have come forward to speak to the police with any information they may have.

"I ask anyone out there who has any more information at all to find it in their hearts to contact police and tell them what they know."

Third Arrest Over Sheffield Playground Slaying
Police investigating the shooting of 16-year-old Jonathan Matondo in Sheffield last week have arrested a third man. The 26-year-old was arrested at an address in north Derbyshire, South Yorkshire Police confirmed, and is currently being questioned.

Sheffield Murder Accused Remanded
An 18-year-old man accused of the murder of 16-year-old Jonathan Matondo in last week has been remanded in custody. Negus Nelson, of Margate Drive in the city, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. An application for bail was refused and Mr Nelson was remanded in custody to appear before Sheffield Crown Court on October 30.

Protesters Climbing London's Shard Building
Six protesters are climbing the Shard in central London, western Europe's tallest building. Metropolitan police were called to the building at around 4.25am on Thursday morning. It is understood the protesters accessed the building via the roof of the nearby London Bridge Station.

Myleene 'Aghast' At Police Warning
Media personality Myleene Klass has been left "bemused" after receiving a police warning for brandishing a knife at garden intruders through a window. The former Hear'Say singer noticed teenagers entering her garden while she stood in her kitchen. Ms Klass banged the window to scare them off, while holding a knife.

Fresh Leads Followed In Sheffield Teen Shooting
Police investigating the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Sheffield have said that they are following a number of new leads in the case. South Yorkshire Police said that they were "actively pursuing some strong lines of enquiry after a good response from the public".
